The edge of the edge

If Chuansha (川沙) — being outside of the outer ring — is on the edge of Shanghai, then this is the edge of the edge. No man’s land, just outside of Chuansha.

Some live here in old buildings (but a dog barks me away), others grow crops, and others like me take a stroll.

This basically is Chuansha’s unsupervised community garden.

One leftover sign (of a plot now upended) basically says if you steal stuff here, your whole family will be doomed.

不劳而得
自己不花钱
别想偷东西
没有好下场
全家死光光

Not from yesterday but from around the same area, with a warning of poison on the crops to fend off thieves.

本地蔬菜已打农药。如偷摘后果自负。毒!!!

Passing on the Baton

Day 2876 in Shanghai and I’m walking with Hasse on Dongdaming Road (东大名路) in the Hongkou district. In 2018, I lived next to this road; here I registered my first Chinese bank account, bought my first baozi in a FamilyMart, and it’s here that I photographed so many random things because Shanghai was all new […]
