Journey Under the Midnight Sun review

A smoke-filled neo-noir thriller that takes place in Japan during the advent of computers and Japan’s economic boom.

What’s hugely impressive is the many storylines that slowly merge and unravel. It’s the passing time too, across more than two decades and several places, yet going back and forth all the time. The atmosphere is so rich. It all fits so perfectly together, the whole architecture of this book designed by Keigo Higashino – and for this, Journey Under the Midnight Sun is a genius piece of work.

It’s not a story that changes you, nor may it leave a lasting impact – but it’s such a thrilling read that is hard to put down. 539 pages, and still it felt too short. Most of it all, it makes you glad you’re a person who loves reading books.
