Age shaming on national television

Old is the message yet ever new. A lady on a televised dating show, shown weightlifting, shown surfing, shown running. The bachelors think she has a great character. But then her age, 42, is mentioned. And none of the dozen guys want her. The next girl, mid-20s, is fought over by the bachelors. The message this Chinese TV shows sends to young girls: get married before you’re too old, or nobody will want you, and you’ll be left alone. It’s hard not to see the politics in this. The idea that women lose their value as they age is as deplorable as it is false.
